Clark's Grebe, Tri-City Park, Placentia, California. The only birding I did on the weekend's visit to SoCal was a quick stop at Tri-City Park, near my family's house. Much to my surprise, in the middle of it was a Clark's Grebe. For a bit I wondered if this was a leucistic bird, but some research shows the light coloration is actually within normal range. I love the haircut.
Taken with the SX50, from way too far away, handheld, just to show how far mega-zoom mid-range point and shoots with image stabilization have come. The constrast is a bit weird to me, but given the camera and distance, I really can't complain about how sharp these are. 1200mm equivalent. handheld. not bad.
